When torn between two clubs, a good rule of thumb is to choose the longer one, choke up on the grip, and swing smooth and easy. It is more difficult and rarely in your best interest to push a club to its maximum distance. Swinging a club at 100% causes the body to become out of sync and makes it very hard to consistently strike the ball. When you club up, you allow yourself to make a better, smooth and tempoed golf swing. You’ll find that your ball striking will improve, and therefore your understanding of your own distance control will get better.
